2016 International Summit Forum on Burn Injury: Precision and Standardization

The 2016 International Summit Forum on Burn Surgery, themed with “Burn management: Precision & Standardization”, was successfully held from 15th to 18th June 2016 at Sheraton Hotel, Chongqing, China. Together, the annual meetings of the Society of Burn Surgery of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Chinese Burn Care and Rehabilitation Association and the 3rd International Symposium on Burn Rehabilitation & Wound Healing were also held. The conference was hosted by the Institute of Burn Research, Southwest Hospital, the Third Military Medical University. The vice director of the Institute, Prof Yizhi Peng , together with Prof. Jun Wu and Prof. Yuesheng Huang were the chairman, and the director, Prof. Gaoxing Luo was the executive chairman of the meeting.

A total of 32 speakers including academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Zhengguo Wang, Prof. Xiaobing Fu, the president of ISBI Dr. Rajeev Ahuja, the former president of ISBI Dr. David Mackie, the president of EBA Dr. Naiem Moiemen, the past president of the Korea Burn Society Dr. Dong Chul Jang, and other outstanding experts from USA, Australia, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the Netherlands and UK were invited to give keynote speeches on the forum. More than 500 delegates attended the academic conference. Focusing on precision and standardization, the speakers reported the most recent progress in burn management, e.g., optimized resuscitation, precise wound measurement and debridement, biomarkers for predicting sepsis, new techniques in wound healing and plastic reconstruction, new findings in molecular mechanism in inflammation after burn injury; protocols for burn care, prevention of infection, burn rehabilitation, and management of group burns were also introduced to the audience by speakers from different regions and burn centers, resulting in lively discussion. The conference initiated communication of ideas, techniques and strategies in burn surgery, and also promoted cooperation in clinical and basic research between different centers.

The editorial office of Burns & Trauma participated in organizing the meeting. By taking this chance, the editorial members exchanged opinions on publications with the readers, authors and reviewers of the journal. Now Burns & Trauma is abstracted by ESCI and PubMed indexing, and has earned widespread recognition and public praise. During the conference, the editorial board meeting of Burns & Trauma was held. Twenty-six editorial board members and invited experts in burn and trauma field attended the meeting, discussing about the development of the journal and the special issue plan for 2017. In the meeting, there was also an awarding ceremony. Certificates for top 10 reviewers, guest editors and outstanding papers were awarded by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof Jun Wu.

After the conference, many delegates congratulated on the success of the forum and expressed their appreciation for the impressive academic meeting and enjoyable time in Chongqing.
