Annual meeting of the Chinese Burn Association (CBA) 2015

On November 4-7th 2015, the annual meeting of the Chinese Burn Association (CBA) and Chinese Burn Care and Rehabilitation Association (CBCRA) was held in Shenzhen, China. It was a high-profile, multi-disciplinary congress on burn surgery, with more than 1,200 registered delegates attending the meeting, discussing and exchanging views on frontier issues and hotspots in burn and related fields. Prof. Dahai Hu, the president of CBA, was the Chairman of this meeting and Prof. Kunwu Fan from the Department of Burn and Plastics, the Second Hospital of Shenzhen was the Executive Chairman. A lot of experts of different research interests from China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, America, Australia, Belgium, Israel, Japan and South Korea were invited to give keynote presentations on the meeting.

The meeting was themed with “exploring new technologies and strategies in multidisciplinary integration treatment and critical care of burns”, with four sections on “tissue repair and wound healing”, “severe burns and mass burn casualty”, “shock, infection and nutrition” and “rehabilitation and burn care”, respectively. About 200 presentations were given during the meeting, with an emphasis on the latest development of medical rescue in burn disasters and management of severe burns. The most recent progresses in basic and clinical medicine in burns were shared on the meeting. There was also a specialized forum for young researchers and surgeons.

As the official journal of CBA and CRCBA, Burns & Trauma gained much attention from delegates at the exhibition stand. Prof. Jun Wu, the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Zhaofan Xia and Prof. Yixin Zhang, members of the Editorial Board, and Prof. Peng Xi, the Vice Director of the Burn Institute, Southwest Hospital, introduced the journal to the audience and called for papers after giving their presentations. Many authors and readers of the journal and delegates communicated with the editorial staff about the journal and followed Burns & Trauma’s Wechat account.

At the end, the best presentations of this meeting were selected. Prizes for speakers and young scholars were awarded to the winners. Prof. Tianzeng Li from Sun Yat-sen University won the CBA Life Achievement Award, which is the most important award of burn medicine in China.

The CBA annual meeting was an international academic event to share ideas and perspectives, to summarize the past and present, and to discuss about the future of burn medicine. It aroused brainstorms, benefitting burn medicine in China and abroad.
